Photo-Op: Winter Beach

Photo-Op on SLDiscovery.com is a semi-regular feature that puts the spotlight on a Second Life spot that makes for a cool place at which to take photos inworld. Not an entire sim, not even a complete parcel, but just a single specific location - a spot.

Flickr members: join the SL Discovery Photo-Op group and add your pictures taken at Photo-Op spots to the group pool.

!! -->> Take note that several of the previous Photo-Op spots are already gone or changed in a significant way that renders those SLurls ineffective as originally intended. Very little in SL stays the same for long, so be sure to grab these opportunities as they come!

Inworld, snow arrives early in autumn and generally disappears right after winter begins. There's plenty of longer-lasting snow in RL throughout the winter, but for today's Photo-Op, you'll want to hurry, hurry, hurry because this virtual snow-covered opportunity might disappear at any moment!

This is a chance for you to capture your snow gods/goddesses and icy fairy queens, your arctic elves, polar bears or bigfoots. Ironically, for this frosty winter beach, we're heading to a sim called Hot Midsummers Night. The landing point will deliver you to the Little Kasiopaya shop in the sky, so at the teleporter where you arrive, just click and select "Land." When you reach ground level, pass eastward through the ice tunnel (or click the map for 226/155 to make a beacon to follow) to reach the snowy beach.

Here you'll find yourself surrounded by frosty trees, including one with ice blue "jewels" hanging from its branches. To one side, there's a firepit with seating places around it. To the other side, a tented cabana. In the middle, a couple of deer enjoy the quiet of the sim's eternal night. Twinkling stars abound.

The first few shots I took of snow queen LadyBlue used typical poses, but it became more interesting when she began dancing and really took off (no pun intended!) when she used the Sky Born animation which set her aloft, whirling and floating on the air. Having a model in motion can help you catch positions and angles that a static pose won't give you.

Have fun with Windlight here. With nearly everything of the environment in white, any colors given to the sun or sky reflect beautifully in the surroundings, whether it becomes daytime or nighttime. Some of the settings I played with here were from a fun bunch made available by Chic Aeon to download and add to your settings.

You may also want to play around with your snapshots later in your paint program. No matter your preference, be sure to fit in this location soon, because even a winter beach this delightful doesn't last very long in SL.
